Our History
Built on Experience, Precision, and a Commitment to Service
New England Laser & Transit was established in 1992 by Rolf Moody and Phil Murphy of Bow, NH. Rolf and Phil both had years of experience repairing lasers and optical equipment. Their experience helped them develop a company that would focus primarily around servicing existing equipment, and the product knowledge that came with being technicians helped them choose products that would best serve their customers.
After growing the business for ten years, the company was sold to Carroll Concrete in Newport, NH. A state-of-art facility was built and additional sales and repair staff were added to maintain the high level of customer service that remains the hallmark of New England Laser & Transit Company.
In June of 2008, Joe Wallace and Alan LaRose purchased the business from Carroll Concrete. Joe had served as chief technician and operations manager with the previous owner and continued in that role. Alan took on the role of sales manager and business development. Both owners were committed to providing the most dependable service in New England and the finest products in the industry.
In March of 2016, New England Laser moved to Sunapee NH at its current location. The new and larger building became necessary to provide room for some new calibration equipment, a showroom, some retail space, and room to grow.
In September of 2019, Joe Wallace decided to leave the company to move to Virginia for the milder winters and to be more central to his children. We will always be grateful to Joe's contribution to the company and wish him the very best. Alden Merritt took on the job of chief technician and has become a valuable employee and is the son-in-law to Alan.
In 2021, the business took on Jon LaRose, oldest son of Alan. Jon does sales and support specializing in 2D and 3D machine control. In 2022 Gus LaRose, 2nd of Alan's sons, changed from full time U.S. Coast Guard to reserves and now works with the family to grow New England Laser to the next level, making the company a family business with 2 generations.
